klm.
flying klm business for the first time. can you believe they don't
have power adaptors?? the food was ok. service sketchy. this one
definitly gets ranked last. so far the rankings are:
man, i feel like i got hit by a train, and i have to go straight into work. i didn't sleep much, so we'll see how it goes. :)
saw "good girl" (starring jennifer anniston) on the plane. blah. as thor would say, two thumbs down. it's about a small town girl who's unhappily married, so she sleeps with a 22 year old. not even a rental.
just opened my laptop and now i have to close it. (at this time, all electronic devices must be switched off.) later.
snow in detroit.
i'm in a taxi trying to get from the airport to my hotel. originally
i was going to go straight to work. since it's snowing here, my
flight landed late, taxied on the runway forever, and all of the
luggage took forever to come out. when i finally arrived, my trusty
cab driver was awaiting, but now the roads are absolutely
bumper-to-bumper. i was supposed to arrive at 1:35pm and go into the
office for a half day. now it's 5pm, and i'm not even close to the
office yet. i'm just going to the hotel.
dude, the weather was better in germany! what's up with that?
moved out.
so i'm officially out of my apartment now. i only slept for about an
hour or two, but i managed to pack most of my stuff into my super big
suitcase and one smaller piece. the rest of my stuff is with martin
and matthias (thanks guys - please take care of my shoes!) :).
hopefully i'll be back to claim my stuff soon... i should know more
this week.
this is the second apartment this year that i've had to move out of.
back in the us of a.
it's weird to be back in the us. american cars. people speaking
english... and a million other languages. people from all over the
world. service with a smile. the frat boy look. stores that
are open. traffic. american flags flying proudly. people eating
fast food in their cars and talking on the cell phone. malls. big
parking lots. maxim-mentality. i just took a picture of "exit 69:
big beaver road". nuff said.
we (americans) are pigs - in all senses of the word.
what next?
matthias drove me to the airport at the butt crack of dawn this
morning (thanks, babe!). i was so sad to leave him. you know that
feeling where you just don't know what happens next? and it's that
unknown that is so scary? well, welcome to my life. i found out
about 3 days before i first got to germany that i would be doing 2
weeks in stuttgart. i got on a plane... and it's been about a year
now. then last week, i found out that i had to move out of my
apartment and leave the country all together - for an undetermined
amount of time. what happens next? i have no idea! all i can say
for sure is that i'll be in detroit this week, and i'm going back to
san francisco for the weekend. beyond that is a black hole right
now. for me, at least. it's always possible (and probable) that
someone else knows more than me and just hasn't told me yet. i'm a
mere peon.
stop asking me!!! i don't know!!! gaaaaaaaah!!!!
hotel situation.
hahaha. i finally arrived at the hotel, and jay helped me unload my
heavier-than-one-person-should-ever-have-to-carry luggage to the
lobby. as i huffed and puffed my way to the check-in counter, i
managed to mumble, "checking in. cu. c. u." *tippity-type* on the
keyboard... forlorn look... "i'm sorry, ms cu, but your reservation
has been cancelled." oooooh... bad idea to mess with me right now. i
woke up at 3:30am (2 hours after i went to bed), took a 6:30am flight
to amsterdam, had a 3 hour layover, got on a 7.5 hour flight to
detroit, waited 1.5 hours for my baggage to come out, and spent 2
hours on the road to get here, and you DON'T HAVE A ROOM FOR ME?!?!?
well, we have a room available wednesday for you, if you want...
apparently, my reservation was for sunday-friday and since i didn't check in last night, they gave away my reservation. and now they are "over-booked", whatever that means. so they sent me across the street to the courtyard marriott. i enlisted the help of a poor bellboy who had to freeze his butt off lugging my luggage across the street. mind you, it's snowing. and, as luck would have it, the courtyard only has a room available for one night. tomorrow night, they are sold out.
looks like me and my luggage are homeless tomorrow night.
thai food.
i met up with kelly and harlan for dinner at the little thai place
nearby. it was nice to catch up with them. it's also nice to be able
to get quick thai food for a decent price where the people that work
there speak english and are attentive. :) then i made them go to
dairy queen with me to get ice cream.
and now i've officially been up for over 24 hours. (i would say, "this has been the longest day of my life," but i don't think many people would get it.)
